Today, we’re announcing an exciting collaboration with NASA using Photosynth technology, to create three-dimensional environments of preparations for the launch of space shuttle Endeavour.  For the first time ever, viewers can experience unprecedented views of shuttle Endeavour on the launch pad, interior and surrounding area of the Vehicle Assembly Building, and the return of previous flight Shuttle Atlantis atop a 747. Photosynth is able to capture the depth and complexity of the shuttle’s structure, providing exclusive images to viewers around the world enabling the unique ability to explore this NASA mission.

In addition, Live Labs has collaborated with MSNBC to create a special multimedia tour of the Kennedy Space Center at http://spaceworld.msnbc.com

Amazing work, my heart won't slow down since i saw the TED talk and this beta. The possiblities are endless. One of our programmers is going home tonight to hook-up his old VR goggles!

I am wondering if one of our projects can be a demo project for Photosynth in the automotive space. Smart LPG is recognized as the most environmentally friendly car in the UK, and we are possibly opening our first showroom in london soon. It would be unbelievable to show the car via photosynth online and in the showroom. Check us out! smartlpg. Thanks, RM

This is just amazing! I almost spend an hour wandering around. I have never seen anything like it! I have to say though that it took me a while to get used to the navigation.

An immediate use for this technology would be to assist in reconstructing the bridge collapse in Minnesota. There must be lots of photos and video already available - through newspapers, television and government investigation. I think it would be extremely useful to take this body of photography and link it together with Photosynth so that the position of every fallen girder is known in 3D coordinate space.

Very impressive, I must admit I had lost track of Photosynth since it's initial demos but I found this and my jaw very nearly dropped, it's incredible.

Two questions:

1. Would this ever be implemented into Microsoft's online Local Live service or perhaps use some of the navigation from that?- their use of the 360 gamepad for instance is fantastic in my opinion for navigating this sort of thing.

2. Is the team brave enough or even allowed to do something like Disney's Magic Kindom at Disney World- surely the huge library of holiday photos from around the world could make the entire park blossom into some sort of virtual life?

this is way cool. here's where i think this gets holodeck cool: try photosynth-ing, frame by frame, video shot from 8 or 10 angles (kinda like gata-cam on steroids). i know it's processor-deadly now... but in 5 years, we could theoretically have videosynth... a video within which a person could move around and view from any angle. if it started interpolating... ladies and gentlemen we'd have a holodeck. :-)

Ik wonder wether the upgrade in the future will be that you will be able to browse through time as well as space. So in this case see photo's of the activity ever nearer the launch and during.
Actually when you use camera's you'll have an interactive 3d environment, so that'll be an even much further away future

Amazing Job, I'm offering you to start the new project Photosynth Pyramids, it will be great i promise you if you are ready for cooperation

I've got a challenge for this software. Check out 'Starry Bamboo Mandala' in Flickr. It was an art installation built at Burning Man in 2006 that had hundreds of pictures taken of it from all sorts of angles (including fish eye, aerial, etc.) But it's spiky nature might be hard to render in 3D...

Oh, if you need rights permission to present this, contact Gerard Minakawa, the designer, at minakawa*AT*gmail. I'm pretty sure he'd love to see the results.

I just spent a very long time on this.

It is definitely amazing!

I would love to see an image tour of the whole world.

Wonder if that will ever happen.

It's astonishing what is possible with this technology. Great work.
12/19/2007 5:31:31 PM UTC
That is very impressive. It is staggering how technology has changed the way we do things.
20 years ago it would have been totally impossible and it would have been luck that brought the craft back home.
12/19/2007 9:55:04 PM UTC
Truly impressive and jaw-dropping technology guys - big kudos to all on your team. I can't wait to explore the next gallery that is released - in fact I'm having a bit of trouble finding the Shuttle tile gallery. Any tips as to how to find it?
12/21/2007 1:27:06 AM UTC
thanks for the info. It is staggering how technology has changed the way we do things.
12/27/2007 1:30:10 AM UTC
Is there any way to download and use this space shuttle project into my desktop? Are there any other NASA-related projects that I can download?
12/27/2007 1:38:45 AM UTC
Any hope of integrating this with Google Earth data? That would be great (though I understand not possible :). Google + Microsoft just would not go together... Anyway - great looking pictures!
12/31/2007 11:26:27 PM UTC
Its really amazing with what Photosynth technology can do, the future with it is great. Thanks to microsoft for developing it.

In Maple Story, players will be able to create characters that will grow as they learn new skills and become stronger. There are four characters to choose from: Warriors, Bowmen, Magician, or Thief. These characters can be dressed in many different and colorful outfits. Personalizing characters is one of the goals of Maple Story. Once a character has been created, they will learn skills that will help them when they reach Victoria Island.

Fantastic work - big fan of Photosynth!

Any chance there are plans to draw on the vast library of images from the Apollo moon landings? I think that would be a truly amazing use of this software.
